Finished DEATH WEARS A BEAUTY MASK
One of the best books of short stories I've read in a long time. Not a single throw-away story in the bunch. Especially loved the title story, the Alvira and Willie Meehan story (always adore these brave sensible mystery solvers), and "The Funniest Thing has been Happening Lately." But all are vintage Mary Higgins Clark and all are fun, and most are "edge of your seat" reading. The last one is funny.
I am now reading The Ghost Walker, the second book in Margaret Coel's Wind River Series. It opens in the middle of a Wyoming blizzard. Father John, stranded by car troubles on a remote road on the Arapaho reservations is trying to get to a main road where he comes across a body thrown on the side of the road. Within the first 50 pages, the body has disappeared, he learns that the Bishop intends to close his mission and Vicky, a nearby lawyer, learns that her daughter has returned to the reservation with three questionable (and surly) white men. A lot happens in these short mysteries.
