Finished another 100 pages of ALEXANDER HAMILTON

16130. sy475

This section covered the years that John Adams was president.  He was only a one term president--he was bad tempered, opinionated and managed to alienate the Republicans and many Federalists (his own party.)  He did things that seemed badly advised both to Washington and Hamilton as well as their faction of the party.  Interesting section.

I have now started Pandemic by Robin Cook.  A young woman (30) has died suddenly on the subway.  Jack Stapleton suspects a flu-like virus but when he opens her up he discovers she had a recent heart transplant, but her lungs are eaten up with infection.  The heart was in good shape....

Finished THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE

32335539

In the end, it is a lesson about the value of humanity and friendship through differences of opinions and life choices.  Because of the power of the setting the theme is also strong.

I have now returned to Alexander Hamilton for another 100 pages.  This section has started out with Washington choosing not to run for a third term and the divisiveness of the following election which resulted in Adams president (a Federalist) and Jefferson (a Republican), political rivals.

Finished IN THE TIME OF GREEN BLIMPS

18346212

Another wonderfully inventive novel in the Star Saga by Henry Melton.  100 years after all technology on Earth was destroyed, new technologies are are being developed.  Some are new life forms bred specifically to serve humans--the blimps don't travel fast, but they are one of very few delivery services available and these do fly.  Are they dangerous?  The jury is out.
I love all the books I have read by Henry Melton and they just keep getting better.

I am now nearly finished with The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck.  Set just after WWII in West Germany, three women manage to come together to survive and rebuild what they can.  We learn about the war experiences of each  in retrospect and see the direct influence those experiences had on them and their children.

No, I don't seem to have had my fill of hollocaust stories, though I could never read them in succession.

The delay and reporting has been caused by our returning to Florida and have only just gotten the computer set up.

Finished THUNDER KEEPER

1129461

Again we deal with the violation of Indian lands by corporate America.  The weather is an important character in this novel which puts our nosy hero and shero in hot water.

I am now about to start another in Henry Melton's Project Saga (starting with Star Time).  We are now back on Earth one hundred years after the supernova that destroyed all of the Earth's technology.  There are two directions that recovery has taken and they are not compatible...

Finished LIGHTS OUT TONIGHT

71662

Because you always know these books are going to have a happy ending for the central character, I become intrigued guessing what will happen to supporting characters that I like.  The characterization of selling and using marijuana as criminal was dated...if that were changed cocaine or even opiates, the book would be more up to date.  I found myself caring about Meg and hoping she came out ok.  There are several shady characters in the book providing a number of red herrings to eliminate.

I have now started The Thunder Keeper by Margaret Coel.  Is this really the seventh book in this Wind River series?  I have read 6 of these books already?  And have enjoyed every one of them.  Very real murder mysteries are solved by Father O'Malley, a Catholic priest, and Vicki Holden, a lawyer mostly involved in cases that have something to do with Indian rights.  But now, Vicki has left the area and is working in the big city and Father has heard a frightening confession that he can't tell anyone about...

Finished THE FAIRY PRINCE

26269152

I taught 7th and 8th graders for 34 years.  I enjoyed reading with them and greatly enjoyed their literature.  But, it seems that what I was reading them had more than teenage angst, self-centeredness, and stupid disastrous decisions.  Maybe not.  But now, I'm way too old to put up with it.

29597255

Once upon a time, I was able to read the books I bought for my nieces and nephews aloud to them.  But that time was short lived.  Now I am so far away from everyone and shop on line, so can't read all the wonderful sounding new books I send.  This one I got for my cleaning team (house elves) who have a 5 year old daughter.  The book made me giggle and smile.  It does not have the play with rhymes and repetition I love for young children, but it does include lots of silly things to do with their grandparents.

I have now started Lights Out Tonight, by Mary Jane Clark, #9 in her Key News series.  This time, a theatrical and movie reviewer is working on a story which is intended to explore an actress, a local summer stock playhouse, and a specific play.  She is unintentionally getting up close and personal with a sociopath.  Perhaps more than one...

Finished ODDS ON MISS SEETON

397522

Miss Seeton carries an umbrella and, since she is a retired teacher, when she sees anyone doing something wrong, she is quite likely to poke them with it.  We now learn she may not be totally dependent on the umbrella, especially when a young person she likes may be in danger.

I am now about to start The Faerie Prince by Rachel Morgan.  It is the second book in the Creepy Hollow series.  I bought this by mistake.  I got the first two books in the series because I thought they would be similar to The Hollows series by Kimberly Harrison.  You see, Rachel Morgan was the heroine in that series, and I got confused.  I was not really impressed by the first book in the series.  If this isn't better, I'll stop reading the series.
