Finished DAY SHIFT

23281944

Again, I love Charlaine Harris' supernatural books.  We are left with mysteries at the end that may be resolved in the next book, but in this one a lot of mysteries were revealed,  two of the plots introduced in this book are resolved.  But the neatest surprise was that two characters from the Sookie Stackhouse books (True Blood) wandered into town.  Nice to see them again.  Very enjoyable book that read surprisingly quickly.

I have now started Death Wears a Beauty Mask and Other Stories by Mary Higgins Clark.  The first story (title story) begins with a young model missing and no one wants to report it to the police since she is very well known and it would cause a scandal (she is in the middle filming a very expensive ad campaign).  Her sister is frantic to find her...

Finished URN BURIAL

13416844

Once again, I am impressed by how much is going on in these short mysteries.  Every guest (and there are a lot of them, including a lot of staff) has a secret and pulling out the murderer from all the people keeping secrets and then unravelling all the secrets...all in less than 200 pages...what a feat!  Another treat, Miss Mary Mead, a Miss Marple type character that I have encountered before, is one of the guests.  Each of these books is better than the last.

I am now about to start Day Shift, the second of Charlaine Harris' Midnight, Texas books.  We saw the short TV series made from them last summer.  There were three books at that time.  I am hoping there are or shortly will be more.

Finished PRINCE LESTAT AND THE REALMS OF ATLANTIS and one other

Once again leaving Anne Rice's world leaves me vaguely mourning and longing.  I love her imagination and her love for the atmosphere and characters she creates.  Again, her world is sensuously lush and keeps enticing me back.

Having seen Chelsea Clinton on one of our talk shows promoting this picture book for little girls, I wanted to see it, ordered it and read it.  It is cute.  All thirteen of these women have a number of full length biographies about them, but for our great grandaughter, this may be a neat beginning book in historical study.  I may seek longer biographies next Christmas for my nieces.

I have now started Urn Burial, #8 in the Phryne Fisher Mystery series.  Phryne has accepted an invitation to get together with a friend, family and other friends at a gothic house in the country.  Shortly after arriving, she figures out that someone is trying to kill her host and now the river level has risen cutting them off until it goes down...  A classic beginning to a murder mystery.

Finished BLACK MOON (#5 Poldark series)

194637

I think this comes close to catching me up with the series on PBS.  Of course a new season will most likely start soon.  The story is compelling and the characters complicated.  Love this series.

I've been a bit slower reading this past few weeks, partially because of a trip to Florida to see my siblings, partly because of a hassle with my IRS return, and partly because so many interesting things have been on television recently.  😅

I have now started Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis by Anne Rice.  I am looking forward again to luxuriating in her lush descriptions and alternate reality.  Always glad to have a new Anne Rice book in my reading piles.
